Companies are getting higher at explaining which duties agentic AI can automate and which roles might disappear in consequence. But many haven’t given a lot thought to what occurs to the work, and the folks left in its wake.
American Express plans to minimize roughly 5% of its world workforce because it expands AI throughout customer support and commerce. Barclays is eliminating about 5,000 jobs whereas rolling out AI coding instruments to its builders. Both companies are altering how work will get executed, but are they constructing a unique enterprise or just a leaner model of the one they already have?
The danger is that a number of companies get forward at eliminating work and fall behind at constructing what replaces it. The penalties could not present up in the quarter when layoffs are introduced but might emerge years later as lacking abilities, misplaced institutional data, and a scarcity of skilled folks.

The new jobs could require totally different abilities and expertise, and the previous ones could disappear earlier than staff have time to purchase them.
